II · 4 · Day 127
A Priest Forever, After the Order of Melchizedek.
Friday, May 8
He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. — Hebrews 7:25
There is a strange figure who steps onto the page of Genesis without genealogy, blessing Abraham and disappearing again before we have had time to ask his name. The writer of Hebrews returns to him not as a curiosity but as a category — a priest unbound by Levi, unbound, even, by death.
It is exactly the kind of priesthood we need.
Adapted from David Gooding, An Unshakeable Kingdom.
