There is a strange figure who steps onto the page of Genesis without genealogy, blessing Abraham and disappearing again before we have had time to ask his name. The writer of Hebrews returns to him not as a curiosity but as a category — a priest unbound by Levi, unbound, even, by death.
It is exactly the kind of priesthood we need.
